5 WAYS TO CHOOSE PERFECT CRICKET BAT- BUYER’S GUIDE

5 Ways To Choose Perfect Cricket Bat– Buyer’s Guide

Buying a new cricket bat isn’t the most exciting thing in the world!

When we watch our favorite cricketers we often find ourselves thinking about how they would play if they were Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Rohit Sharma or Steve Smith. Having grown up watching Sachin Tendulkar, Steve Waugh, and Brian Lara rip apart bowling attacks, I knew the MRF was a favorite.

But before you buy a cricket bat, you should consider a few things. You should hopefully be able to tell from this guide what kind of bat is right for you!

The conditions you typically play in, and your style of play

Choosing the right cricket bat is based on your style of play. A big hitter or an accumulator? Is your main interest in T20 cricket or longer forms of the game? If a T20 player wanted to get the ball travelling as far as possible, they might choose a bat with larger edges and a longer handle. The biggest edge is not as important for an accumulator, rather it is a bat that allows optimal bat speed.

There are also differences in the profiles, edges, and sweet spots of cricket bats. Choosing a cricket bat should take into account the conditions in which you usually play. What type of conditions do you usually play in? The lower the sweet spot, the better. Playing in bouncier conditions is the opposite.

Size

Size is the most important factor to consider when choosing a cricket bat.

Choosing the right bat size depends on your height. Your shape will be completely out of balance when facing a delivery if your bat is either too tall or too short. As you prepare to face a delivery, you do not want to crouch too low or too upright, depending on the length of your bat. As a result, your performance may suffer because you’re not in the best position to play the delivery right away.

What is the best size for you? Use the chart below. With a bat of the right size, you’d be able to stand up straight with your palm touching the top of the handle, whilst holding a bat like this upright against your leg.

You would not be very confident about choosing a bat without these tests if you’ve had a good bat before.

Weight

When choosing a bat, the weight is equally important as the size.

The average bat used by professional cricketers weighs between 907.185 and 907.1847 pounds, which is considered average. Even if you are not a regular gym goer, you can still choose a great bat at a slightly lower weight. A real example of how far bat manufacturing has come is that today, powerful bats do not necessarily mean heavy.

Holding a bat out in front of you with your top hand is a great way to determine whether or not it is the right weight. A bat that is too heavy will make your hand shaky. You can also position yourself in your stance and hold the bat with the top of your hand, as if you were about to face a delivery. Having the right weighted bat means you’re nice and steady.

When you have previously owned a good bat, you will be very confident to choose a bat without these tests.

Your Budget

Cricket lovers are in heaven with a selection of cricket bats!

Having too many options can also lead to feeling overwhelmed. It will be easier for you to focus on the bats that fall within your price range if you have a budget in mind. It is important to make sure you pick up a good bat if you regularly play against good bowling. Despite this, there may be instances in which you need to buy a bat for your growing child. If you need to replace the bat within a couple years, you may be better off with a lower budget.

Number of grains on a bat and the grade of the willow

There are a few options for choosing a bat, depending on your budget.

Grade One and Two bats are excellent choices if you are willing to spend more. Lower grades are a good option for those with a smaller budget, but always remember that you can still find a bat that’s good quality.

The term “Bat Grains” refers to the quality of the willow in your bat. Generally speaking, the better the quality of a bat, the more grains it has, and the straighter the grains are.

Choose a cricket bat based on these five factors.
